CHHS, October 8, 2025 – The Lady Cougars delivered a powerful statement on Wednesday evening, avenging an earlier season loss by defeating the second-seed Risley Middle School in a commanding fashion to capture the championship title. Playing at CHHS, the Cougars’ bats were hot, ending the game by the run rule with a decisive 13-3 victory.
The game started with Risley jumping out to a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but the Lady Cougars were quick to answer the call. The bottom of the first saw a rally ignited by a Cassia Douglas sacrifice bunt that brought in Kylee Page. Hydee Gay then singled to plate Alivia Jennings to tie the game at 2-2 and promptly stole home, giving the Cougars the early 3-2 edge.
Risley managed to knot the score again in the top of the second at 3-3, but the tie was short-lived. The Lady Cougars broke the game open in the bottom of the third, fueled by a two-out rally. After a walk to Kylee Page, Alivia Jennings smashed a line drive to left field for a double and an RBI. Cassia Douglas followed with a double up the middle for another RBI, and Ellianna Brockett capped the scoring burst with a double of her own, putting the Cougars firmly ahead 6-3.
The momentum swelled for the home team in the bottom of the fourth. With the bases loaded following hits by Jennings and Douglas and a walk to Brockett, Hydee Gay stepped up and drilled a deep shot to left field, bringing in 2 RBIs. Jada Singletary and Addison Turner followed suit, each adding an RBI to extend the commanding lead to 11-3 heading into the final frame.
In the top of the fifth, pitcher Hydee Gay—who pitched all five innings and tallied 4 strikeouts—shut down Risley’s offense. The Lady Cougars then turned up the pressure on offense to seal the deal. With Alivia Jennings and Cassia Douglas both walking and advancing to second and third via stolen bases, Ellianna Brockett delivered the final blow. Brockett hammered a shot to left field for a walk-off double, driving in 2 RBIs to end the game by the run rule with a final score of 13-3.
Brockett was the standout offensive force, leading the team with a phenomenal 5 RBIs and 2 doubles in the championship performance.
The victory provides the Lady Cougars with sweet redemption and the well-deserved hardware, proving they were ready to answer the call against the one of the only teams to have handed them a loss this season.
Congratulations Lady Cougars on your Region Championship!
